About this site
An independent guide to owning a home in Houston and hiring people you can trust to work on it.
Who publishes it
The Houston Homeowner is an independent publication. We do not accept payment for placement, rankings, or reviews, and no home service company owns or sponsors this site.
We started this site because we spent years watching Houston homeowners choose contractors badly, not because they were careless, but because nobody had ever told them what to look for. The information that a licensed tradesperson takes for granted, like what a Texas license number looks like or why a bid with no scope is a trap, is not written down anywhere a homeowner would find it. So we wrote it down.
How it is funded
Independently, by its publisher. There are no paid placements, no sponsored rankings, no lead forms that sell your phone number, and no affiliate links. If that ever changes, this page will say so before the change goes live.
Editorial rules
- Every claim about Texas law or Houston permitting links to the agency that enforces it.
- The same vetting criteria apply to every trade. No trade gets a lighter standard.
- We never name a company as a recommendation unless a page clearly explains why and how it was checked. As of today, no page does.
- Pages carry a published date and an updated date. If a rule changes, the page changes.
- Corrections are welcome. Email hello@thehoustonhomeowner.com.
Who it is for
People who own or are buying a home in Houston or Harris County and need to hire someone to work on it. Many of them are reading on a phone while something is leaking.
